Looking for a Saigon shopping tour that skips the malls and souvenir stalls? Ride with a local guide to antique streets, Dan Sinh and Binh Tay markets and the goldsmiths of Cho Lon, then have a pair of wooden clogs made to your size. By e-bike, motorbike or car, from $32 per person.
Overview of this Saigon Shopping Tour
Saigon is a big shopping city, but not everything happens in malls or souvenir shops. There are still small streets where people come to buy fabric, old things, tools, food, jewelry and all kinds of everyday goods, and some of these businesses have been around for decades.
This Saigon shopping tour is about seeing that side of the city.
Antiques, old markets and Cho Lon on this Saigon market tour
We start in central Saigon on Lê Công Kiều, a short street of small shops selling old ceramics, clocks, household objects and other vintage pieces. From there, we visit the area around the Fine Arts Museum and Dân Sinh Market, a strange mix of tools, hardware, old objects and things you probably won’t know the name of.
Then we head to Chợ Lớn. We pass through the Nhiêu Tâm goldsmith area and stop at Vạn Phật Pagoda before reaching Bình Tây Market. It is still a busy wholesale market, so this is where you’ll find Vietnamese coffee, tea, spices, dried fruit and dried seafood.
A Saigon shopping tour with no pressure to buy
You don’t have to buy anything. If you want to shop, we’ll help you choose and talk with the vendors. If you just want to look around, that’s fine too.
Before we finish, we visit a traditional wooden clog workshop. Choose the wood and strap style, and the craftsman will make a pair to your size. It’s a simple thing, but it’s made for you. After that, we sit down for some sweet soup and take a break before heading back.
You can do the tour by e-bike, motorbike or private car, so you can explore Saigon the way you feel most comfortable. Want more of Cho Lon’s history? Try our Saigon Chinatown tour or the Ho Chi Minh City half day tour. For background reading, see Chợ Lớn on Wikipedia.
